What full backs should West Ham try to sign?
I think we all agree about the need for new full backs.

So what options are out there?

Max Aarons and Jamal Lewis of Norwich will most likely both be playing premier league football next season, but I suspect they are out of our price range.

That's why I reckon scouting Europe would be a good idea, probably better quality and prices there as I don't think there are many English or British options. Am I missing someone? Probably

Timothy Castagne, Zeki Çelik, Joseba Zaldúa, Bartosz Bereszyński, Kostas Tsimikas and Deyovaisio Zeefuik are options that should be scouted by the club.

Sajmo

It was on the chat thing next to the live video of the Wycombe game on YouTube. I don't know if the chat is still there, but you'd have to go through an awful lot of crap to find it. I'm sure you will if you're prepared to try hard enough!

I am not sure if thats good or bad news tbh?

Good I suppose but Johnson looked more than capable as a RB and Fredericks, although technically poor, can defend a bit.

Its left back where we have nothing (unless the young lad who played Tuesday is earmarked which seems unlikely despite him looking decent). Cresswell and Arfur !!! Moyes must see it?

Re: What full backs should West Ham try to sign?
According to Sullivan Jr on the YouTube of the Wycombe game (assuming it really was him), we're in the process of signing a RB and a LB. He said that negotiations were at an advanced stage for the RB (I think?), and thta he was currently playing in the Championship. Which includes the three relegated sides.

Not bothered about the rest of the squad, can live with Anderson, Lanzini & Yarnalenko for another season as we should get 15 goals out of the trio, but please get us a LB, Cresswell is too much of a liability, wouldnt mind Raiding Fulham again, get Joe Bryan

Left back is the critical one of the two.

Cresswell is simply not up to it. He did a decent job or a few seasons and has been decent value for what we paid for him. Also, seems a decent bloke too but most would agree just not of the quality, physicality/size, speed or technique ( passing / crossing ) needed for the modern full back who needs to be both a strong defender and almost a winger too these days He is mediocre at both.

If we do nothing else we have to address this position as a priority IMO.

I seem to recall we looked at Rico Henry when he was a kid at Walsall.
Dean Smith was his manager then and took him to Brentford when he took over there.

Re: What full backs should West Ham try to sign?
Appearantly Moyes wants Rico Henry of Brentford

Antonee Robinson isn't wanted because of his injury record they say

Tsimikas has signed for Liverpool for 13 million.

Hertha Berlin signed Deyovaisio Zeefuik today for 4 million so cross that one off the list :)

Animal: "Don't get the hate for cresswell. He's been a solid starter for us for 6 years. Couple of exceptional seasons and couple of so so ones. Think the time is right to start easing him out now."

Agree with that.

Re: What full backs should West Ham try to sign?
According to Marca, River Plate rejected the Hammers’  initial bid of €7m (£6.4m)  for right-back Gabriel Montiel and now the in-demand international is wanted by Bundesliga outfit Schalke 04. It’s claimed that the 23-year-old has a release clause of around €20m (£18m) and that River only holds 80% of the player with the remaining 20% being claimed by Montiel’s family and representatives.

In May Spanish website Estadio Deportivo claims that River Plate right back Gonzalo Montiel has verbally agreed a pre-contract with West Ham after first attempting to bring him to east London in January, only to be prevented by financial fair play regulations.

Previous reports suggested the defender could be available for a transfer fee in the region of £10m but was on condition that Montiel is unable to secure the necessary work permit, with his future ‘in the hands of the Home Office’.

During lock down, Manuel Lanzini said he wants to see River Plate full-back Gonzalo Montiel playing alongside him at the London Stadium next season. He admits to talking to the 23-year-old about joining the Hammers this summer after a bid was reportedly rejected in the January transfer window.

Lanzini was quoted as saying to Diario Olé in his native Argentina “I think Montiel would fit in well at West Ham. I know they looked for him and couldn’t bring him in, he asked me and I spoke to him. The coach (Moyes) likes him. He likes to play with three or five defenders.”

Although Montiel is primarily a right-back he is also capable of filling in at centre back too if so required. He is often deployed as a ring winger for River plate who often play him in an attacking formation but he is said to possess excellent defensive skills as well as the ability to push forward.

In March 2019, Montiel was named in Argentina’s squad for friendlies against Venezuela and Morocco by manager and former Hammer Lionel Scaloni. On 22 March, Montiel made his debut against Venezuela. He has made 64 appearances since 2016 for Lanzini’s former team River Plate.

The guy from River. He’s young and is a capped Argentinian. Can’t imagine him being too shabby.?

Re: What full backs should West Ham try to sign?
Fredericks as back up to Johnson? He needs to improve his passing and technique to be capable of that even. Hopefully hours of extra drills on the training ground learning to pass accurately. That improvement can be a achieved at any age. Its about wanting to. Does he? He should see the need and will if he is a bench warmer.

Left back we have nothing. Cresswell is not good enough even as a back up now IMO. Worse than Fredericks and that takes some doing. Fredericks has one redeeming quality, his pace. It means he can still deal with the quality of attackers. Its when he has the ball there's a problem. Cresswell? No pace, every game he gets done by the ball inside the full back. He's not physically strong or aggressive enough so gets knocked off the ball far too easily, is poor in the air at times on crosses and even going forward, one of his strengths in the past, he invariably fails to cross beyond the first defender.

We need 2 left backs but a good first team one will be a start.

Midfield needs another "engine". Even with Rice and Soucek, a player that can break from midfield. A version of Noble but 10 years younger with pace. :-)

Need another forward and again an athletic one. Ideally with the pace and strength of Antonio but better technique. Antonio is 30 now anyway so only 2 or 3 years left really.

Another CB would be good and another backup keeper.

Will be interesting to see if we can get one of the above with zero budget and having to sell our overpaid wasters.
